A Standerton municipal official's house was petrol bombed by angry residents during a service delivery protest, Mpumalanga police said on Monday.
"Part of the municipal speaker's house in the Sakhile township in Standerton was damaged after residents petrol bombed it during a protest on Sunday," said Captain Leonard Hlathi.
The protest started around noon on Sunday and residents barricaded roads with stones, burning tyres and litter.
When police arrived at the scene, the crowd dispersed and no one was arrested.
On Saturday, Standerton municipal offices were set alight during the protest.
Hlathi said Sakhile township residents started protesting on Friday demanding water and lights.
"Officials from the provincial government came and addressed them and they dispersed peacefully."
Hlathi said the damage at the offices was estimated at R60 000.
An arson docket had since been opened.
On Monday, police maintained a strong presence monitoring the situation, said Hlathi. - Sapa

The People's War has begun!
The ANC should improve service delivery or get out of politics.
